Who or what is the Grizzly Alumni Association

The Grizzly Alumni Association was formed in 1970 as a result of the 65th birthday party for Elmer Huhta held at the Hoquiam Eagles. Most of the organizers were former athletes who played for Elmer in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Lester Stritmatter was the first President, Alan McKay was Vice President and Tom Headland served as Secretary-Treasurer. These three men served in these offices until their deaths. The Board of Directors consists of 12 to 15 alumni. Approximately 25 different people have been elected to the board at one time or another. The association has 2200 members both graduates and non-graduates form Hoquiam High School. Every state in the union is represented. The Grizzly Alumni Association’s sole purpose is to support the students of Hoquiam High School.
